Texas weather 020319

You have got to love this weather. Tuesday morning, or Monday night if you prefer, it was so cold puddles of water had layers of ice on them. I had a pail with water in the back yard and the top was frozen, just a fine layer of ice. Now we have been a low of 60 degrees. We’ve been foggy, not really too cool, but not hot yet.

But fear not, today (Superbowl Sunday) we should hit a high of 70, with a low of 62 tonight. Tomorrow we should hit a high of 78. Yes this is Texas early spring time temps. But later this week, around Friday we should be back down to a high of 45. That cold won’t last long, then we’ll be back up to the low 60’s again.

But just to be on the safe side I’ve begun putting seed in. Since I’m using old seed I’ve kind of used however much seed I have. I’m using opened packages. I figure using them up gives me a good excuse to purchase fresh seed when I need it – either this year or next.

I’ve put in:

  • onions
  • peas
  • green beans
  • tomatoes
  • broccoli
  • swiss chard
  • lettuce (various since I’m using up seed)
  • spinach
  • peppers – sweet, and hot

Since I’m using old seed, we’ll see how much comes up. Wish me luck

As for looking to move, that is still happening. But one thing I am looking at is making sure wherever we move to I can put in a garden. That’s important for me, so its one of those things I’m looking for in a new place. Easier said than done.
