A new year and how the times change. I have moved. In the time since this website was started I have moved a few times. When we/I began this journey I lived in a large house on almost 2 acres of land. Then in 2019 it was a house in an HOA neighborhood, but again a fairly large house. Then 2023 saw me move to Temple, TX. That was a smaller house, in a neighborhood with no official HOA. Unfortunately it was not the best place for me, and as such gardening didn’t happen much. But the Temple house also came with different weather. The weather was hotter, the winters were not that bad. But that area did seem to be in the way of winds, aka tornadoes. In the short, about 2 years I was there, we had a tornado in Temple, and hail storms. The hail damaged a brand new roof, and the wind brought down part of my fence.
That storm was a mess. The hail storm hit, and less that two weeks later we had the winds. Where my house was did not get hit by the tornado, we just got wind, albeit bad wind. Wind enough to bring down my fence and fences along the same path. A year later some people have not gotten their roofs replaced.
Early April I moved once again, but this time to Georgetown TX. I’m a bit more south of Temple. I am still in what is considered Central Texas. But more the southern part as opposed to the middle area. The middle area seems to be more prone to severe weather, especially thunderstorms and tornadoes.
For instance today as I write this, May 1 2025, thunderstorms ran through the area. It seems there was a tornado spotted in Killeen, I don’t yet know if it did any damage. There was hail, and a possible tornado in Burnet. The hail was large, one report said grapefruit size. And rain was heavy in Burnet – 2 to 4 inches of rain. Even here in Georgetown we got rain last night, just over 1 inch of rain. But at least we do not seem to be in tornado zone. That is subject to change, but so does the weather.
And tomorrow more rain is on the way. We shall see how this area’s weather is different from the other areas I have lived and gardened here in Texas.
