It is cold out there

Yes, the cold front did come in! And it is here! WOOOOOOO

Since this morning we’ve been sitting at a nice balmy 39 degrees, with some light rain, and definite wind. Baby, it’s cold outside.

Surprisingly, the actually forecasts haven’t changed that much. They are still forecasting a high of 48 with a low of 34 tonight. Not that much different than what they had said before. And the next two days are highs of mid 50’s with both nights a low of 29. So it is definitely cold. The rain is only forecast for this morning, then it should be sunny days.

But we did get a cold front. And with the wind outside jackets are required. I’m not talking jackets are just a nice idea, the wind child is a cold 29 out there. Anybody that can not get out of the wind and doesn’t have a jacket is in trouble. This will last a couple of days so if you are outside the next couple of day, take care and dress appropriately.

And depending on which are you are in, some areas are looking at freezes, not surprising.

The cold front arriveth

It is Sunday morning, the day our cold front arrives. How cold will we actually get remains to be seen. But the high for today was probably seen around midnight. This morning its in the 50’s, with high humidity, and a slow drop in temperature already.

The forecast right now says we have a chance of rain this afternoon, and I think it might happen. It might not be much rain, but we’ll take what we can get. But right now the forecast for tonight’s low ranges from 37 to 40. But from Monday thru Wednesday the lows vary more widely.

This table shows what I’ve found, always subject to change. It shows the website then the highs for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, then the lows for the same three days.

So what temperatures will we hit? I don’t know. But it will be a definite change from what we have had.

But it sure does feel good to walk outside in the cool weather.

I’ll keep you posted.

And the rain continues

I woke up this morning to a dark outside, at 9 AM, that looked much later than it was. It actually looked dark, turn the lights on outside dark. Luckily it began lightening up shortly thereafter. And the even better new – my weather station said we had 1.75 inches of rain since midnight. So we are getting rain. As I walked my dog on the wet road, I could see a few, okay just a few, blue spots in the sky. Now, at almost noon, those blue spots are harder to find. The sky is a blanket of clouds. More rain is expected today and over the next few days. I’m glad I fed my lawn before the rain began.

On a different note, the weather forecast for this weekend and early next week is growing colder. That above freezing night time temperature is dropping. The forecast for Monday is high of 44, low of 37. Yet Tuesday (Halloween) is now 51 for a high, and 31 for a low, but at least no rain. And next Wednesday, the start of November is also 51 for a high and 31 for a low. Will that actually happen? We shall see.

Hopefully this rain we had and are continuing to have will help our lakes and reservoirs fill back up. We can hope.

Rain!

The gods have smiled down on us. We have gotten some rain. Not a lot mind you, but we had just over an inch or rain here just the other day. And to make it nicer, the temperatures have been cooler too. And we have possibly more rain due here in the next few days (we shall see if that happens). How’s that for good weather.

The cool and wet weather has been a boon to the plants. I had some dead spots in my lawn, and the grass seed I put down has begun to sprout. Areas of my yard plants that I had trimmed, they show new growth. What passes for real autumn has begun to shows itself in the area. It’s amazing what a few degrees of cooler temperatures can do for plants. As I write this, it is mid afternoon, 82 degrees with 78% humidity (I did mention more rain).

And to make the weather even more interesting, next week, actually beginning on Sunday we should get our first real cold front. This coming Sunday, just before Halloween, we should reach a high of 75 then drop down to a cool 37 degrees. And next Monday that cold front should continue with a high of 45 and a low of 37, with Tuesday Halloween Day having a high (wait for it…….) of 51 with a low of 34!! Ladies and gentlemen, get out your coats!

Will we get trick or treater’s that night? Well, that remains to be seen. Hopefully we will get some.

The cold will not last too long. By the end of next week, the first weekend of November, we should be back to the mid 70’s for highs and lows of mid 50’s.

But this is the first signal to get ready for cold and winter. We shall see what we get this season.

Rain!!

Last night, well after midnight, we got a storm through. It came with some thunder, though not much where I am, but it came with rain! Since I have my weather station set up I can tell you we got about 2 inches of rain, 1.92 to be exact (so says my weather station). Today we are planning on a balmy low to mid 80’s, they say 83. Either way we have some cooler weather in the forecast. They say, and I’m hoping they are right, that Saturday will be in the 70’s, like 74 for a high. The rest of the days over the next 5 days will be in the low 80’s.

Finally some cooler weather.

But like it or not, it also means we’ve gone from triple digits just a couple of weeks ago, to the 90’s, down to the 80’s in well less than a month. I won’t call that bad, but I will say it doesn’t give a lot of time for plants to adjust to the temperature change. I really do think we are getting dramatic changes in short time periods. Welcome to the new normal?
